New online up-to-date guide to acquiring Italian citizenship

It provides an overview of the basic laws regarding the transmission, acquisition and loss of citizenship as well as dual nationality. Details on grant of citizenship in special cases, citizenship awarded by reason of marriage or residency are also provided together with the instructions for checking the status of your on-line dossier, a service available since July 2010.

The guide also quotes statistics showing a progressive increase in the number of citizenship applications approved over the period 2008-2010 (40,223 in 2010 compared to 39,484 in 2008). The greatest number of citizenship applications approved in 2010 concentrate in Milan, at provincial level, and in Turin, at regional level, whereas the record for the number of citizenship applications approved either by reason of marriage or residency over the same period is held by Morocco.
