One-stop-shop for self-government authorities
It provides legal, technical, administrative advice and assistance to both local authorities and public /private entities upon their request. Furthermore, it maintains relations with both the associations representing the interests of local authorities (National Association of Italian Municipalities, Association of Italian Provinces, National Association of Mountain Municipalities, Communities and Authorities) and the Department of Public Administration.
Set up in 1990 within the framework of the reform process of local government started over that period, this office works within the Central Directorate for Self-government Authorities at the Department for Internal and Local Affairs of the Ministry and is staffed by a team of experts. Through its activities, the Ministry of the Interior contributes to an adequate running of local authorities, in compliance with constitutional provisions.
The one-stop-shop for self-government authorities, amongst others, provides support to the Committee tasked with assisting and monitoring the Special Commissions established within the municipalities dismissed because of Mafia infiltration.
